Lactation Consult

Lactation Consult Blue Mountains

Do you need a lactation consult in/near the Blue Mountains? For example, are you struggling with cracked nipples, mastitis or issues with positioning and attachment? Similarly, do you need help dealing with oral restrictions, intolerances, settling or sleep? I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) with an extensive background in breastfeeding counselling. Throughout my career, I have supported women in a variety of birth settings and situations and undertaken substantial professional development to ensure my lactation support is aligned with current scientific evidence. My experience totals over 1200 hours of breastfeeding support and this is my passion! Therefore, I’d love to help you!

A Lactation Consult can help you

establish and maintain

breastfeeding

Establishing and maintaining breastfeeding isn’t about ‘feeding stations’, pillows and pumps! However, it does have a whole lot to do with the kind of support system you have. Society does not adequately support, normalise and model breastfeeding for us. Consequently, some mums do need additional support.

Blue Mountains lactation consult and doula support

Remember, breastfeeding is a full time job! Nonetheless, with the right support, you can do it!

I offer lactation consults to women in the Blue Mountains and surrounds. Specifically, this includes Lithgow down to Nepean and Hawkesbury! Additionally, if you’re outside area, virtual consults via Skype, Facetime or Zoom can be provided. Do you need help?

Lactation Consults – What do they involve?

A lactation consultation will look however you need! Some mums have trouble latching their baby so a consult focuses on watching a feed and doing an oral assessment for baby (images). Alternatively, some mums need support with expressing breastmilk to return to work, so a consult involves running through the set-up, feeding, cleaning and storage of breastmilk. I provide a comprehensive plan with current research, phone, text and email support and options for follow up post consult as needed. You’re not on your own!

Whatever you need, I meet you where you’re at.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Where do you do the lactation consult?

II come to you, wherever suits you best! Some people prefer to meet in the comfort of their own or a friend’s home while others prefer meeting at my home in Blackheath. Either way works for me.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, absolutely! If you need support with paying for your lactation consult over a period of time then please just let me know! Some women will ask for a progressive payment plan or delayed payment.

When is the best time to organise a consult?

If at all possible, having a planning consultation before birth can help spare you the need of rushing to book a lactation consult after the birth. However, I provide support for women regardless of where they are at in their journey – if you’d like to plan AND have a consult, there are packages available for this too, just reach out.

Can my support person be present?

Absolutely! Your partner or support person is absolutely welcome to be a part of the consult, and indeed, this is wonderful because sometimes they will remember bits and pieces that the mother may not. You don’t have to have a support person present if you’d prefer not to, but they are definitely welcome if you do.

Can I have a planning consult first?

Yes, absolutely! I am always supportive of preparing and planning for your breastfeeding journey. Some people feel that they would like to have a consultation prior and I think this is a beautiful idea – you then have the information and a direct contact with me should you need.

What other services do you provide?

In addition to lactation consultancy I can provide birth attendance, Calmbirth classes, Spinning Babies/Optimal Maternal Positioning, Birth Mapping, Infant Massage, Babywearing, Debriefing, Ceremonial support, Postnatal preparation and more.

Lactation Consults – What are other people’s experiences?

“I contacted Aimee because I was struggling with very sore nipples, over supply, poor latch, and general emotional support for breastfeeding. She was more than happy to help guide me and explain things in a straight forward and loving way. Quick and easy to contact. Never once did she make me feel incompetent or useless. She’s very empowering and knowledgeable and I wish lactation consultants would be more utilized in the birth community among parents, vital support!”

Jess

From beginning to end Aimee was amazing. She is calm, incredibly knowledgeable and well researched, caring and simply an amazing human through and through. Her advice is rooted in evidence and best practice, but delivered with care and an absolute focus on the needs of the individual woman. She does not push her own agenda but informs you of all options and is respectful of the decisions you choose to make. Her knowledge and support as a certified lactation consultant saved my breastfeeding journey in the early post partum days with my daughter. She very easily fixed a latch issue I was having that was causing trauma to my nipple which was also impacting adequate flow of milk to my daughter. I am grateful to say that Aimee’s help has me successfully breastfeeding 7 months on and confident in my feeding journey.

Emma

“Cannot thank Aimee enough for the help she’s provided. I was having great difficulty feeding on one side with my new baby – Aimee was so helpful in working through the issue. Her ‘technical’ advice and suggestions were brilliant but perhaps most importantly, they were delivered with empathy, kindness and patience – exactly what a tired (and possibly stressed/hurting) new mum needs!”

Melissa

“Aimee is amazing. We had such a positive pregnancy and birth experience in large part thanks to her. The post-natal support (including around breastfeeding) was invaluable as well. Aimee is a wealth of information, completely non-judgemental, always supportive and respectful, and so compassionate. Anyone wanting a supported birth experience or considering having a doula should definitely get in contact with Aimee :)”

Emma

“Aimee has been an absolute incredible, reliable, kind and loving resource to me since having my baby 11 days ago. I reached out to Aimee during the last few weeks of my pregnancy to go through any potential feeding issues and we went through my previous feeding experiences. On day 3 of having my 3rd baby because I felt overwhelmed with her latching and didn’t feel like I had the right technique. I was brought to tears by the amount of feedback I received, Aimee watched how I fed my daughter and gently shared all knowledge and advice with me. Since then we have had such a pleasant experience feeding. I’m so happy I sought out help early on in our feeding journey.
Thank you so much. Anytime I have a problem I know I can reach out to Aimee and she will meet me where I’m at.”

Donna

“I can’t thank Aimee enough for her support, encouragement, professionalism and genuine care she showed me when I was so worried about breastfeeding my second child. Aimee provided me with information and guidance to ensure my baby and I had the best start possible for our breastfeeding journey. Because of that I have been breastfeeding for almost 12 months now! I highly recommend anyone needing advice on anything baby/breastfeeding related to contact Aimee, you won’t regret it.”

Alex

“I am so grateful that Aimee could support River and I during this beautiful but very vulnerable time. River is now 15 weeks old and is still learning how to feed, but doing wonderfully. It is such a great comfort to know that if I ever needed additional support, she is there for me. Aimee is a kind, warm and wonderful person who gifts her knowledge and perspective in such a calm, intelligent & whole person way; I felt truely held. I could not recommend Aimee and all her talents enough!”

Jane

“Aimee has been a light in the dark for me when it came to me breastfeeding. She has helped me overcome many obstacles breastfeeding both my girls and been a champion in my corner when I didn’t have the strength to do so. Her knowledge is extensive and helped guide me through tongue ties, combination feeding, low supply, pumping and mastitis. I think what’s always stood out to me is Aimee’s happiness to pass on the knowledge of breastfeeding and belief that our bodies are made to do this and we just need to believe in ourselves, all whilst respecting my choices.”

Nena

Although she was already extremely busy, Aimee went above and beyond and made herself available to me two days before Christmas. The advice she provided exceeded my expectations and resulted in a complete resolution of the issues I was having, allowing me to continue to exclusively breastfeed my baby. Aimee genuinely cares and although I was difficult to get in touch with in the week following her visit, she made a huge effort to reach out and offer her support. I wouldn’t hesitate to use Aimee’s services again and have already recommended her to my friends.

Lisa

How do you summarise how one individual completely transformed such an important time for your kin? Straight away, Aimee embraced me with all of my anxiety, and held me through every stage of my recovery and subsequent breastfeeding journey. Aimee became the angel on my shoulder during the long nights of exhaustion and cluster feeding, and the pillar of strength leading up to those critical and terrifying early weigh-ins. I have not felt alone for a single moment thanks to her counsel. I have never felt judged, pressured or coerced. Instead, Aimee has raised me up, built my confidence, and nurtured my soul in the weeks after birth. Through her messages and home visits, Aimee has been so much more than a lactation consultant. I cannot recommend Aimee enough. No matter where you are on your journey, I have every faith she can support you.

Alix

Aimee is such a wealth of knowledge and helped me immensely during my breastfeeding journey. I decided to hire an IBCLC because I was having some latch issues and also need some general support with breastfeeding. She has a thorough understanding of all things breastfeeding related, gave me so many resources to work with post-appointment. I know I can always reach out to her if need be in the future. Thanks aimee ?
