What do you need to know about Birth Aims? I’m a pregnancy, labour and postnatal doula, breastfeeding support and a birth activist, supporting women in the beautiful Blue Mountains and surrounds. I have lived in the Blue Mountains my entire life and now have the pleasure of raising my own children (Willow, Hamish and Evalie) alongside my husband (Justin) here, surrounded by our furred and feathered babies.
When I’m not doulaing you’ll find me mothering, researching and volunteering! As I’m passionate about women’s birth choices and rights, I volunteer with the Australian Breastfeeding Association and Maternity Choices Australia, coordinate Homebirth New South Wales and Homebirth Australia and sit on the committee for Doula Network Australia. Because of these contacts, I am deeply connected to the birth world with a constant desire to improve physical, emotional, mental and spiritual outcomes for women and babies.
I’m passionate about informed choice and believe every family should have the option to birth where and with who they feel safest! All women should be supported to feed their babies how they decide, and feel held to raise their babies in their own way. My vision is that every family will feel informed, support, empowered and connected throughout their journey. So, I support your goals, whatever they may be.
Birth Aims can provide you with support in different ways:
Massage, counter-pressure, acupressure, positioning…
Listening while you talk; we’ll laugh and cry together and I’ll be there with you!
Information provided about current research, hospital policy and procedures, contacts, reading materials, options and alternatives. We can work on mapping out your preferences so you can advocate for yourself.
Pregnancy, birth and postpartum can be deeply spiritual events. As your doula, I can hold space, helping you feel held and connected, and will be guided by you as to how best to integrate your own beliefs into these experiences.
There is much wisdom to be drawn from cultural traditions. As such, I can support your cultural needs, being guided by you as to how I can best support you.
If you have a partner attending your birth, I don’t take their place! Instead, I facilitate an environment in which your partner can be more involved, providing you both with support in whatever way is needed.
My knowledge and experience can provide you with information, connections, support and aids to breastfeed your baby. As I’ve obtained a certificate IV in breastfeeding education (counselling), supported hundreds of women to breastfeed and breastfed my own children for 6 years (and counting), I can provide unique experience and perspective.
My passion, education and experiences equip me to support you and your family throughout pregnancy, birth and beyond. In my ‘past life’ (pre doula) I was a university lecturer and researcher. Consequently, I can obtain, interpret, synthesise and explain recent research and provide you with current information to support your informed, empowered decisions.
As your Doula, my role is to support your goals for birth and beyond, whatever they might be. I envision that every family will feel informed, supported, empowered and connected as they grow, birth and nurture their own babies. I’d be honoured to support you and look forward to hearing from you!
